Lodge Parties and Holidays

We are taking enquiries and bookings for the forthcoming season of 2011.

Please contact ian@speycaster.net for information on dates and prices.

Ian has been hosting and guiding fishing parties since 1980, when he opened his first fishing lodge on the Isle of Mull. Knowledge of clients requirements, whether it is good fishing accommodations or advice on all aspects of salmon and trout fishing have been his expertise throughout this time.

Ian and Mike have organised annual Spring and Autumn Speyside reunions of fishing friends since 1993. Together we have fished the Rivers Spey, Avon (A'an), Aberdeenshire Dee and Findhorn from February through September and over those years many great stories have been created.

Between us, we have detailed knowledge of the very best beats on all of these rivers. Ian has introduced many more courses at a number of venues throughout Scotland.

A variety of fishing from the Spring through Autumn is available on all of these Highland Rivers.

We have detailed maps of the Salmon pools on the Drynachan, Glenferness, Coulmony, Logie, and Altyre beats of the River Findhorn, which has now become a regular venue for Spring, Summer, and Autumn fishing.

In addition, we also have detailed maps of Salmon pools and fish lies of the Ballindalloch beats of the Avon and records of productive pools at each height of water.

These records have purely been created from the exploits and successes of our fishing lodge parties over the years.

The Fishing Season

The salmon and sea trout fishing season is open from February 1st through October 15th on the River Dee. The season for salmon and sea trout is open from February 11th through September 30th on the Spey, and Findhorn, and Avon.

We are also able to offer fishing on beats of the river Don and Deveron from February 1st through to October 31st.

Casting instruction and fishing advice is available, but tailored to individual needs, according to the angler's previous experience and ability. This is the beauty of Salmon fishing.

In Spring and late Autumn, you might well be fishing tube flies on sink tip lines waiting for a deep slow pull on the fly.

In mid-Summer you may well be using a light rod and tiny flies on a floating line in shirtsleeves, preferably "early and late."

Should you retire early for dinner then come back for the Sea Trout or press on into dark as your chances of a Salmon improve? Only you can decide.

The approach will clearly vary according to the time of year and fishing conditions. This is all part of the challenge.

In addition to the Lodge parties, we can also offer tailor made fishing breaks for smaller groups or individuals for Speycasting instruction and guiding on many of the classic beats up and down the rivers Spey, Dee and Findhorn throughout the season.

For anyone wishing to create their own fishing holiday on an individual basis with speycasting instruction, this can be organised for whether it is one day or several.

Speycasting instruction, whether it be for one day or two; three or more, may also be a unique way of presenting your loved one or special friend with a surprise gift; or as a token of appreciation to your top performers.

Ian will only be too pleased to source and arrange your fishing and accommodations. He has access to numerous private beats and association day ticket water on all of these main rivers.

Please email Ian@speycaster.net for information on dates, availability, and costs.

Fishing Lodge Accommodations

Lodge accommodations are provided on a full board basis including picnic lunches at any of our listed lodges below. For overseas visitors, Ian will gladly arrange Land Rover Discovery transportation and will be able to meet and collect clients from Aberdeen and/or Inverness Airports upon their arrival and return.

Rivers Findhorn and Spey

We stay at the beautiful Dallas Lodge (above) in Morayshire, which has become home to us and our guests during those special prime weeks in Spring and Summer.

The Lodge stands within the 10,000 acre Dallas Estate located along the River Lossie approximately 8 miles from the market towns of Elgin and Forres.

The family of George Mifflin Dallas, 11th Vice President of the US and which Dallas, Texas USA was named after him, can be traced to Dallas, Morayshire.

Dallas Lodge was originally built in the late 17th Century by Sir Robert Gordon of Gordonstown. At Dallas Lodge, everything is provided.

We cater for the needs of all anglers from the very experienced to novice fishers. We particularly concentrate on speycasting tuition for anglers of all levels of ability.

Competence in speycasting certainly opens up a whole new perspective in successful salmon fishing and it certainly makes much more of the river "fishable". The records speak for themselves.

Findhorn River, Glenferness Estate

The Wooden House Lodge at Glenferness (above) is a rustic, four-bedroom pine lodge built to a Scandinavian design in the late 1800's. The Lodge can accommodate from six to eight people comfortably. The house stands within the private grounds of the Glenferness Estate right beside the Findhorn itself - and is the perfect base for our Summer/Autumn weeks fishing on the river.

We also have availability on Glenferness Estate for the week commencing September 5th, 2010 with full board accommodation in the Wooden House on Glenferness Estate.

Please contact ian@speycaster.net for information on dates and prices.

On the River Dee, in Aberdeenshire, Ian also hosts and guides fishing parties on the delightful Park Estate, which offers some three miles of single bank fishing for up to six rods.

Accommodations may be taken in the elegant Park House (above), situated in the grounds of the Estate or alternatively may be arranged at one of the recommended established fishing hotels within a few miles reach of the estate. Please refer to our accommodations page.

In addition, Ian also has access to many other private beats on the beautiful fly fishing water of the Aberdeenshire Dee from Banchory to Balmoral.

All holidays are tailored to suit clients own personal needs for fishing, grouse shooting, golfing and accommodations. Alternatively, if you prefer to have a day off you will not be criticised as Salmon fishing is all about enjoying oneself! You might fish that bit more effectively when you return to the river the following day, feeling completely refreshed. We can always advise on the plentiful and diverse Speyside recreation. There is a wide and varied selection of outdoor activities for guests to choose from. Ian can create the perfect sporting vacation to suit your needs. He is available to mix cycling, shopping, golf, whisky trails, and castle tours.

Please view the Tackle and Flies page for details of suitable gear for fishing the rivers outlined below. Particular emphasis is placed on gear suitable for Salmon fishing and speycasting.

Ponoi River, Kola Peninsular, Russia

We are now taking enquiries and bookings for the 2010 season for our annual trip to the Ponoi, Kola Penninsula in August, 2010. Please contact ian@speycaster.net for further information on dates and prices.

In addition to all of his Scottish fishing adventures, Ian also leads a team of 12 rods to the World famous Ponoi River in Russia, arguably one of the most productive salmon rivers in the World.

A staggering 14,500 salmon were caught on this wonderful river during the 2003 season, breaking all previous records for the river. We stay at the very comfortable Ryabaga camp on the Eastern side of the Kola , with up to some 60 miles of fishing to explore there is never a shortage of fishable water. The Ponoi fish have a reputation of being aggressive takers and hard fighters. They will savagely take a skated dry fly or bomber. The sight of a nose just below the surface as it explodes at the fly is really breathtaking and guaranteed to make the adrenaline flow.

We always depart in August for this fishing adventure of a lifetime. August sees the start of the big Fall or Autumn run here and stout tackle is needed to handle these fresh beauties. Plenty of backing and a good reel with a proper drag system are a must here! So be prepared.

We really have some first class fishing on offer, so please do contact me ian@speycaster.net for any information and prices.

To discuss individual guiding, speycasting instruction or joining one of our Lodge parties please contact Ian Neale. Throughout the fishing season, late availability will also be announced on our Fishing News page.
